Meet the Children and Teachers at the Karat School. Help the Community in Cote d’Ivoire and Enjoy Beautiful Beaches.
We are so excited that you are considering joining us to volunteer with the KSP and get to know Cote d’Ivoire! This is a small voluntourism (volunteering / tourism) trip to spend time with the KSP children, experience women’s programs, assist the community, and enjoy the beautiful culture and beaches of Cote d’Ivoire. If you’re interested, please read the requirements, important dates, and information about what to expect below.
Requirements:
An Ability to travel internationally
A Tourist Visa within 48 hours of departure (Please fill out the application form and pay the fees online. We will arrange a date in April to get our Visas in-person from the Cote d’Ivoire Honorary Consulate in San Francisco.)
A passport that is valid for at least six (6) months after the date of departure with at least one (1) blank page
A Yellow Fever vaccination from a registered vaccination center (Please note that you do not need to renew your yellow fever vaccination if you have already received one, because the yellow fever vaccine is valid for a lifetime.)
Optional - Sign up for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) so that, in the event of an emergency, it’s easier to locate you

What to Expect:

Travelers are encouraged to book their travel on their preferred airline for the dates listed above.
Accommodations
All accommodations (double-occupancy) are for 8 nights. Single-occupancy accomodations can be requested for an additional cost. Hotels likely do not have twin beds. Expect all rooms to have a double sized bed.
Transportation
All group transportation costs are included in the full trip payment. Any additional exploration travelers take on their own time is extra.
Currency/Money
In addition to the cost paid for in advance of the trip, volunteers are encouraged to bring a reasonable amount of cash to be exchanged upon arrival. We suggest $500 minimum. We will utilize a private exchange service at the hotel.
Major credit cards such as Mastercard and Visa are accepted in high-end establishments. And ATM stops will be made periodically.
What to Pack
Personal Items:
Cote d’Ivoire is hot and humid. Please pack light linen/clothing, comfortable walking shoes and a few beach-ready outfits. Don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, a cross-body everyday bag, and mosquito repellent. We highly encourage 1 or 2 nice evening outfits.

Additional Information:
It's recommended to pack for hot and humid weather and consider bringing/taking antimalarial medication (consult a doctor).
This trip is specifically focused on the Karat School Project and includes visits to the school, participation in community projects, and interaction with the children.
The trip may offer insights into the culture of Cote d’Ivoire, including visits to villages and markets.
There may be opportunities for cultural immersion, such as attending a Women's Day celebration at the Karat School.
